Peonies are named after Peaon, the doctor to the gods and a student of the Greek God of Medicine. The God of Medicine became jealous of Peaon abilities in medicine so Zeus turned him into a Peony flower to prevent arguments!

The history of the peony continued with Romans who used peonies to create medicines and believed it had magical powers against evil spirits. And the Chinese have cultivated the peony for thousands of years and the name for Peony in Chinese means beautiful and is a symbol of prosperity.
